Exploring Copyright issues that impact Photography

Having worked as a photographer since 1979 and qualifying as a lawyer, it became apparent to me that many of my peers and contemporaries as photographers have a mixed understanding of what exactly copyright in photographs is and the rights granted them in law.

The aim of this Blog is to help photographers understand how the UK Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988 (CDPA 1988) impacts them and their work, dispel myths and misconceptions, and be informative on how best to protect their images from my own first hand experience of protecting photographs from infringement acts combined with my knowledge of copyright law in the UK.

This blog is not intended to provide legal advice and readers with contract problems and infringement issues are recommended to seek legal advice from a  solicitor or barrister specialising in copyright.

Thank you in advance for your interest and support in what I hope will become an important resource for photographers as technological developments continue to impact photographers’ rights in copyright.
